Multiversion Content

Multiversion content — multiple versions of the same content but in different resolutions

Problem:

Suppose a client has many different screens with different aspect ratios (outdoor media facades). For example, 10 screens with 3 different resolutions: 1000x500, 512x384, and 700x1600.

An advertiser (for example, Cola) comes and asks to place their advertising campaign on all screens.

In classic systems, you have to

  • Upload three different video formats
  • Create three playlists (or advertising campaigns) and add the video of the required resolution to each of the three playlists and link each of the three screen formats to its playlist.

Visiobox solves this problem.

Only one playlist/campaign is created for all screens of all formats, and no confusion occurs.

How it works?

Before creating advertising campaigns, "Multiversion Content" is uploaded to the content library.

Multiversion content is a virtual video that can contain multiple versions of the same video in different resolutions and formats. And playlists/advertising campaigns add not videos, but the virtual video.

The Oohdesk CMS server knows the resolution of each screen and player.

Accordingly, when sending multiversion content containing versions of different resolutions to screens with different resolutions, the server will automatically select the video version most suitable for the resolution and send it to the player that matches that resolution.

Important!

  • If the player’s resolution is not explicitly set (in the player card in the "devices" section), the player will receive the video that was uploaded first when creating the creative.
  • If the player’s resolution is explicitly set, it will receive the video that best matches the aspect ratio.
  • If there are two videos with the same aspect ratio, the player will receive the video with the highest resolution.

Below the video shows how to upload multiversion content. In the example, the player will receive an image that best fits the player by aspect ratio.

Example: There is a player with a resolution of 1000x500px There is an advertising campaign or filler — a multiversion video with versions:

  • 1600x800px
  • 1000x500px
  • 500x250px
  • 1000x1000px

The player will receive the highest resolution video provided that the aspect ratio is identical. The screen aspect ratio is 2:1 There are 3 videos with the same aspect ratio. The player will receive the 1600x800px video.

Suppose we have a second screen, which is also intended for this multiversion filler/advertising campaign. The screen resolution is 1100x1050px

Its aspect ratio is close to 1:1. The player will receive the 1000x1000px video. A 5% deviation in the video's aspect ratio is allowed so that the system permits its delivery to the player.
