Internet Connection Specifics
Because some corporate routers restrict internet traffic, below we list frequently asked questions and requirements for removing restrictions.
Frequently Asked Questions
❓ Which IP addresses do your devices connect to?
🙋 If the Oohdesk CMS cloud is used – to various ones. We have a cloud architecture, and the system constantly migrates across different servers (the load balancer sends players to the least busy server). If the client has their own Oohdesk CMS server on the local network, the connection is to it.
❓ Which ports are used?
🙋 80, 443 (HTTPS). Internet traffic must not be blocked by signatures, and certificates must not be cut (applies to encrypted traffic).
❓ How often do players connect to your servers?
🙋 Not on a schedule. Connections are permanently established via WebSocket.
❓ How much traffic does this generate?
🙋 500 MB per month, excluding content. This 500 MB includes telemetry, statistics, commands, etc.
❓ Is it possible to configure players to use static IPs?
🙋 Yes.
Additional domains that players access (optional, access can be closed):
- sentry.oohdesk.com – monitoring services
📢 Important for All Cases!
The connection between Oohdesk CMS Player and Oohdesk CMS Server is established via WebSocket. Some hardware or software routers or Firewalls (e.g., MS ISA Server) alter part of the signatures. As a result, the player loses connection to the server, and it becomes impossible to manage it or obtain data about its state.
Known Issue
A PIN was entered in the player, it activated, but in the web interface it appears Offline (red), does not sync, and does not start playing. The problem is that the WebSocket protocol is being cut (most likely, IDS is enabled on the hardware router, or you are using Microsoft TMG Firewall, or old versions of Kerio Firewall (pre-2010)). To verify that the player is fine, connect it via Wi-Fi from a mobile phone. If it works through the phone, then you need to sort out your internal network settings.
